To address senior citizens’ needs, the administration of City Mayor Oscar Moreno has proposed about P28 million in funding for the purpose in 2016.
Under the proposal, each centenarian or 100-year old elderly stands to receive P20,000 in cash from the city as a ‘birthday gift’.
In fact, four centenarians from Cagayan de Oro namely, Vicenta Gondo, Francisco Opalla, Efipania Halasan and Modesto Espidido were feted yesterday by the Department of Health for their longevity in life, serving as role models on healthy lifestyle.
Mayor Moreno is dead serious on helping out the city’s senior citizens by laying down programs and services beneficial to them.
Despite working on a tight annual budget due to ‘budget cuts’ made by the City Council’s majority, Mayor Moreno tried his best to serve the sector ‘the best way possible’.
