THE first ever Chinese New Year Festival in Cagayan de Oro was successfully launched on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Kiosko Divisoria, under the leadership of Eileen San Juan, local economic and investment promotions officer of Cagayan de Oro Trade and Investment Promotion Center (ORO-TIPC), Dorothy Jean Pabayo, Chairperson of City Tourism Council, together with the leaders of Chinese community.
In his speech, City Mayor Oscar Moreno said the festival is a way to recognize and pay tribute to the Chinese community for its significant contribution to the growth and development of Cagayan de Oro City.
“Cagayan will never be what it is now without the Chinese community”, cited Mayor Moreno.
Ms. Eileen San Juan thanked Mayor Moreno for granting their request to proclaim January 30, 2016 to February 08, 2016 as Cagayan de Oro Chinese New Year Festival through Resolution No. 2016-01.
In line with this, a glimpse of the Chinese culture were presented by Kong Hua School drum beaters, Kong Hua School Dragon dance group, Lion dance by Oro Christian Grace School, and Wushu dance by Cagayan de Oro Wushu team.
