balinkbayanPhilippine’s most competitive city, Cagayan de Oro (CDO) signed a memorandum of agreement with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) to formally pledge its full support, cooperation and collaboration with CFO’s e-governance project called BaLinkBayan: “Overseas Filipinos’ one-stop online portal for diaspora engagement.”

The MOA signing between CFO Chairperson, Sec. Imelda M. Nicolas and CDO Mayor Oscar S. Moreno was held Wednesday, 18 June 2014 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati.

Cagayan de Oro City’s efforts to streamline its business processes and cut red tape earned it the distinction of being named as an “emerging city of tomorrow” during the World Urban Forum in Columbia hosted by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat) early this year.
On the other hand, as an arm of the Philippine Government to promote and uphold the interests of Filipino emigrants and permanent residents abroad, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas realized the need to collaborate with CDO in its program to improve services offered to overseas Filipinos and their families.

Under the agreement, CDO shall participate in the CFO’s BaLinkBayan project by exchange of information in setting up systems for business registration, real property tax assessment and payments. Meanwhile, CFO will feature CDO’s online systems in the BalinkBayan website.
The Commission on Filipinos Overseas and Cagayan de Oro City are indeed on its way in making known the Philippines as an ideal place for business and investment. This partnership seeks to generate volumes of additional investments from overseas Filipinos’ and increase economic activity that will contribute to the state’s economic growth and poverty reduction.
