MAYOR MORENO THANKS PARTNERS AFTER WINNING GALING POOK AWARDS 2017

“Good governance resides on the will of the people, and that is the real essence and purpose of people empowerment”.

Mayor Oscar S. Moreno emphasized this point as he thanked all those who helped and extended their support that made Cagayan de Oro City as one of the Top 10 national awardees in the 2017 Galing Pook Awards.

Particularly cited by Mayor Moreno include the Dept. of Labor and Employment, Dept. of Trade and Industry, City Poverty Reduction Action Team (CPRAT), grassroots-based micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), civil society organizations, non-government organizations, marginalized sector and other stakeholders.

“We are very proud and happy as we could not have gotten this award without your active participation, involvement, engagement and dedication,” said Mayor Moreno shortly after DTI 10 Provincial Director Eliza Pabillore handed over to the city a check amounting to P4 million intended for the Bottom Up Budgeting (BuB) Program on Monday, October 23, 2017 at City Hall.   

Cagayan de Oro City’s Galing Pook Awards entry entitled, “Rising Up from the Mud”, is a testament of Mayor Moreno’s valiant efforts and determination to help rebuild the city, especially those in the marginalized sector and families badly affected by Typhoon Sendong in December 2011 rise up from the devastation.

By directly engaging the active participation and involvement of the communities in the grassroots level with the help of the MSMEs, the spirit of people empowerment through the implementation of various programs and projects under the Bottom Up Budgeting (BuB Program) came to a fruition.

“In spite of the political obstructionism that we have experienced in the past, we remain firm and steadfast in our commitment to deliver genuine public service to our people, and thanks to the support of the City Council under the leadership of Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin “Kikang” Uy”, Mayor Moreno concluded. Department of Social Welfare and Development Assistant Regional Director Manny Borres has turned over the P30 million funds to the City Government represented by Mayor Oscar Moreno from the Japan Government Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017.

The fund is part of the 722 housing materials donated by Japanese Government for the Sendong survivors in the city said
City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD) head Engr. Ermin Stan Pimentel.

Mayor Oscar Moreno and City Veterinarian Dr. Perla Asis led the blessing and turnover of the new P2.4 million Animal Rescue and City Pound facility in Barangay Balubal  Wednesday morning Oct. 18, 2017.

Meanwhile, Mayor Moreno expressed gratitude to the majority members of the 18th City Council under the leadership of Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy for their unwavering support of his program and project as he hopes that there will be no more stray dogs in the city.

Engr. Roland Pacuribot, Dr. Hector San Juan, personnel of City Vet Office and BMEG and officials from other barangays attended the activity.
