Before the end of his first three-year term in office, incoming Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy pledged to increase the city’s scholars from more than 7,000 to 10,000.
‘Nakigstorya kami ni City Councilor Suzette Magtajas-Daba nga ang kasamtangan city scholars nga miabot na og (more than 7,000), atong ni dugangan og (more than 8,000) sa unang tuig sa akong termino (I talked with City Councilor Suzette Magtajas-Daba and told her that I will work to increase the current number of more than 7,000 city scholars to more than 8,000),’ Mayor Uy said in his inaugural speech last Sunday at the City Ampitheater.
Mayor Uy said he will work to fulfill his pledge to Cagayan de Oro City’s families that he will increase the city’s scholars to 10,000. ‘Sa sunod ka tuig atong ilusad ang medical scholarship program sa atong dakbayan (by next year, I will launch the city’s medical scholarship program),’ Mayor-elect Uy said, drawing cheers from the crowd of barangay officials, City Hall department and local officials in attendance.
As chairperson of the City Council’s education committee, Councilor Magtajas-Daba anchored the education program of outgoing Mayor Oscar Moreno that bagged several awards from distinguished institutions in the country, including the Seal of Good Education Governance from Synergia Foundation, an organization co-founded by the late Filipino-American Washington Sycip.
