"Holding this event is essential in our efforts to reclaim our way of life," City Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy said in his welcome remarks during the opening ceremony at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel Wednesday afternoon, October 26, 2022.

"Agriculture and trade are essential drivers of the economy of Cagayan de Oro. One of the approaches to economic recovery is strengthening the linkages between farmers and the market. We also need to diversify our markets to include consumers of fresh and processed products," he added.

The city mayor further said the Mindanao Food Congress will foster improvements in Cagayan de Oro's agriculture value chain.
He also urged everyone to focus all their economic recovery efforts on food security and poverty alleviation.

Mayor Klarex hoped that this year's Mindanao Food Congress and Oro Best Expo will catalyze the transformation of Mindanao's agriculture as a driver of the economy and food security.

Oro Chamber President Raymundo Talimio Jr., for his part, cited the timeliness and relevance of the Mindanao Food Congress and Oro Best Expo 2022 as their agenda aligned with the priority agenda of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

"[It is] relevant because in diversity we found unity with our partner India, the Indian Business Forum, and the Embassy of India. We will address all the concerns related to food security, ensuring food security in the country and financing agriculture," Talimio said.
