RISE ABOVE: TERRENCE PERALTA’S COMMITMENT TO SUCCESS

Written by NLB
Despite a modest upbringing—being one of three children of a tailor and a housewife—Terrence Hamlet Dane S. Peralta overcame his economic limitations to achieve success and make his own mark in his young life.

On May 26-28 this year, Terrence landed fourth place in this year’s certified public accountants (CPA) licensure exam.

A city scholar of Batch 2019 and a resident of Barangay Bonbon, Peralta graduated summa cum laude with an Accountancy degree from Liceo de Cagayan University.

Peralta was thankful to God as he recalled the seven months of review he took for the exam. Discipline and perseverance were key to overcoming that grind, he said.

‘(Young people are) prone to distractions like social media and hanging out with friends (without any thought to consequences). That results to procrastination and lost productivity. So I made up my mind to discipline myself and commit to seven months of review. But discipline isn’t enough so we have to persevere in order to overcome our challenges,’ he said in Visayan.

Peralta credited his advisor and teachers in senior high school for convincing him to pursue accountancy despite being a challenging field. He thrived on the pressure of maintaining consistent high grades which eventually bore fruit as evidenced by his graduation with honors and his top 4 rank in the CPA exams.

Peralta was thankful to Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy and to the City Scholarship Office for helping him realize his dream of being a bonafide CPA.

‘Dako kaayo siya og tabang since wala na kaayo ko huna-hunaon na bayad sa school, kung dili ang pagtuon and pagfocus sa pagskwela nalang jud (They were a great help since I don’t have to worry about school expenses, only on my focus in doing good in school),’ Terrence said in Visayan.
