Cagayan de Oro City joined the rest of the country in commemorating the 128th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal on Monday, Dec. 30, which carried the theme, "Rizal sa Bagong Pilipinas: Buhay at Aral, Aming Nilalandas."
City Hall officials, department managers and employees were on hand to honor Rizal’s heroism with Council Majority Floor Leader Edgar Cabanlas delivering the event’s message in behalf of Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy.
The event included an executive wreath-laying at the Rizal monument, complete with full military honors and a 21-gun salute for the national hero with the local Knights of Rizal chapter in attendance.
Speaking in behalf of Mayor Klarex, Councilor Cabanlas called on Kagay-anons to heed Rizal’s challenge to future generations to uphold the rights and values of a free and prosperous nation.
