The promotion of products made by farmers and fisherfolk cooperatives during the annual Higalaay Festival were discussed at length during the coordination meeting for the month-long event held Thursday (July 17) at the City Local Environment and Natural Resources (CLENRO) Conference Room at City Hall.
The meeting was spearheaded by Councilor Juancho Roa Pascual, who chairs the 21st City Council’s agriculture, fisheries and aquatic resources committee.
Pascual said one of the festival’s events scheduled on Aug. 8 dubbed ‘Fiesta Sa Kaumahan 2025 (Festival of Farmers)’ which carried the theme 'Raising the Bar: From Soil to Scale’ will highlight agricultural innovations and sectoral support for the local farming sector.
Pascual said the committee he chairs is pursuing its advocacy for empowering farmers and fisherfolk. He said they hope that the Higalaay Festival can help sell and provide a platform to open bigger markets for a diverse range of products made by farmers’ and fisherfolk cooperatives and associations (FACs)./Text and photos by Maridel Salapang/CIO)
