Klarex reminds City Hall depts on ‘no new taxes, no tax hikes’ pledge

 

True to his inaugural pledge, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy signed a memorandum reminding all concerned City Hall departments there won’t be any new taxes and no tax hikes/increases imposed on city residents or business owners.

City Budget Office Memorandum No. 01-2022 issued by Mayor Klarex provided the guidelines for the preparation of City Hall’s 2023 budget. Among the guidelines were an aggressive tax education and promotion campaign on the public to use online payment system and ease-of-doing business discounts. These will be implemented in tandem with intensified tax collection efforts.

 

In his inaugural speech last month, Mayor Klarex said while there won’t be any new taxes or tax hikes, his administration will grant discounts on advance tax payments. The City Budget Office memo also stated that subject to the City Council’s approval, City Hall can grant tax condonation on all interest and penalties of real property taxes incurred during previous years.

 

However the taxpayer must settle all delinquencies and fully pay their real property taxes before or on Dec. 31, 2023.
