CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy appreciates the cooperation of the business sector to City Hall’s efforts to cap the resurgence of COVID 19 infections.
Mayor Klarex Uy also said the city is on track with its target of hitting inoculating 90% of the senior citizens and 50% of the population over 12 years old in the first 100 days of this new administration.
As of August 8, the City Health Office hit 81% of the senior citizen’s target and 37% of those 12 years old and above.
Dr. Ina Grace Chiu, CHO immunization program medical coordinator said they were able to vaccinate 172,261 of the targeted 227,591 of those aged 12 years old and older, while we vaccinated 48,947 of the targeted 54,124 senior citizens or about 37 percent and 81 percent respectively as of Aug. 8,” or 62 days into this administration.
Mayor Klarex Uy said the people need to be mindful that COVID 19 is still a threat and the only way for Kagay-anons to enjoy the Higalaay Festival and St. Augustine festival on August 28 is to get vaccinated and to be diligent compliance to minimum health standards.
Last August 5, 30 owners of restaurants and bars signed a “Statement of Commitment” declaring, among others, to require customers to present vaccination card and QR code before getting admitted into their establishments. The Regulatory Complaints Board (RCB) headed by Atty. Jose Edgardo “Egay” Uy gathered the owners of restaurants and bars to remind them to strictly comply with minimum public health standards
It can be recalled that Mayor Klarex Uy led the inspections of restaurants and bars last July 23, 2022 to check if the bars and restaurants are complying with our ordinances to ensure the safety of the public.
According to health authorities the recent increase in COVID 19 cases in the nationwide could be due to the thinning efficacy of the vaccines.
“With the effects of the first two shots and even the first booster shot decreasing in time, there was a slight increase in cases starting in July,” City Health Officer Dr. Rachel Dilla was quoted saying in last Monday’s COVID 19 briefing at the City Hall.
“We experienced a surge in cases in January and February due to the Omicron variant but this went down in March and while we feared that cases would go up due to the elections, it didn’t due to the high vaccination rate,” she added. (CMO press release)
