‘BEYOND MIDNIGHT NOISE’

Written by Stephen Capillas
Nightspot owners told: No loud music late at night

The Regulatory Compliance Board (RCB) on Wednesday facilitated an agreement between officials of a condo complex and two nightspots in which the bars were prohibited from playing music on or before the stroke of midnight.
The agreement was reached between representatives of Avida Towers-Aspira, Station 29 and Lokal Grill in Wednesday afternoon’s mediation hearing held at the RCB conference room. This came amid complaints by occupants of Avida Towers-Aspira about the loud music emanating from both Station 29 and Lokal Grill even during the weekends.

While the representatives of both Station 29 and Lokal Grill were asked to tone down their live band music even before midnight, RCB chairman Atty. Jose Edgardo Uy reminded the nightspot representatives about the statement of commitment they agreed to during a previous dialogue between the board and nightspot owners. One of the conditions included not playing loud music that would disturb nearby residents.

‘We don’t want to reach that point in which we have to penalize the establishments with closure…a business permit is not a privilege since it can be revoked (if found violating the law),’ Uy said. Representatives of Station 29 later apologized for the disturbance and signed the agreement along with a Lokal Grill representative and an Avida Towers-Aspira official.

Under the signed agreement, both Station 29 and Lokal Grill are prohibited from playing music at midnight in their open areas unless their sites are sound-proofed. They were also prohibited from using strobe lights that can disturb nearby residents during late evenings. /Text by SC with photos by Reynan Baylin of CIO
